This organisation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Wootton Wawen C of E Primary School is fully committed to safeguarding pupils within its care. We recognise our moral and statutory responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils. We endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued. We are alert to the signs of abuse and neglect and follow our procedures to ensure that children receive effective support, protection and justice. All staff are trained and annual training updates keep adults informed of any safeguarding and Prevent updates and current initiatives. Our policies follow National and Local Authority guidelines. All adults, including volunteers, are rigorously checked before starting at Wootton Wawen C of E Primary School, having clear safeguarding procedures both on site and for activities off the school site.

Senior staff and governors are trained in safer recruitment procedures. All senior leaders and SENCo have received more in depth Safeguarding Lead training through Warwickshire County Council.

For further information please view our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy.

Prevent is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorist or extremist causes. The Prevent strategy covers all types of terrorism and extremism, including the extreme right wing, violent Islamist groups and other causes.

Taking Care Project

At Wootton Wawen C of E  Primary School, we deliver the Taking Care project which aims to improve the safety and well-being of children in Warwickshire by teaching them to keep themselves safer in a variety of situations.

Protective Behaviours (PB’s) is a safety awareness and resilience building programme which helps children and adults to recognise any situation where they feel worried or unsafe, such as feeling stressed, bullied or threatened and explores practical ways to keep safe. Protective Behaviours also looks at identifying support networks for times when we need someone to listen and help.

Protective Behaviours  is based on two key messages:

  • We All have the Right to Feel Safe all of the Time
  • We can talk with Someone about Anything, even if it feels awful or small

Further information and a national practice sharing forum can also be  found at PB People www.pbpeople.org.uk
